Together with the main two patients' associations of Brazil, Novo Nordisk talked about health eating/exercing with four activities happening at the same time as a circuit, a health circuit.

In this activity the children have the opportunity to know that diabetes is also a consequence of bad lifestyle (not eating health food and no exercising). We prepared a "Health Circuit", with 4 sessions, in which all participants have to take part. The first moment is a presentation about the School Challenge Project and a briefing about diabetes and health eating and exercising habits. Then the whole group are divided in two smaller groups that are going to pass trough the Health Circuit, including acitivities that presents concepts regarding health foods, exercising, diabetes and also mouth care - it's importance to diabetes patients. We also stimulate team work and partnership in some activities.
the whole group are divided in two smaller groups that are going to pass trough the Health Circuit, including four differente acitivities:

  • The Conquer of the “Health” Castle

In this macro game the main purpose is to “build” a puzzle, which is supposed to be a bridge to access a the Health Castle. Each team has to build its own bridge, so the game become very exciting and competitive. Everybody wants to play and try to be the winner (the first one to built the bridge and access the Health Castle wins). The game is disputed in three rounds with different levels of difficulty e has the duration of 30 minutes. In this activity besides some physical efforts we’ll stimulate visual perception, team work and reasoning.

  • Interactive Quiz

Questions and answers, very common in some TV programmes. If the participant knows the answer, you should press the button and a siren will produce a loud sound. The scores are calculated perchance. In this activity we’ll use Q&A related to Diabetes, Health Foods and Exercising.

  • Body Station - Mouth

An element called a giant mouth is being exposed with brushes and other pieces to ilustrate it. We have a professional in each station to talk to children about its importance to prevent unwanted diseases and why this care to diabetes patients. At the end, we ask them some questions regarding the theme and award the ones that correctly reponds the questions.

  • Food's Pyramid

A giant Food's Pyramid is exposed and a lot of removable elements (pieces) - healthy and unhealthy foods - can be handled. Children are able to hold these pieces and to put it on the spaces according to what they believe that are the most important and healthy foods. We have also as an option the opportunity to show them real foods (vegetable and fruits) and make them touch it and identify category of each one according to the Food's Pyramid. This becomes a competition, cause they are divided in groups and we award the teams which accumulates more scores.

Learning Goals

  • Vegetables and Fruits X Fast Food - the differences and benefits
  • Recommended amount of sugar, fat and the balance among them
  • Diabetes? Why it happens? The consequences of a bad lifestyle and the genetical issue
  • Diabetes and mouth's care. Is this also important?
