Global Diabetes Walk in Kabul
Conference, walk and concert for adults and children in Afghanistan

In Kabul, Afghanistan more than 1,000 people gathered for a conference about diabetes. Afterwards, 1100 participants, among others the Minister of Health, doctors, teachers and about 150 students, joined the walk, followed by a live concert.
In Kabul, Afghanistan more than 1,000 people gathered in the Kabul Medical University auditorium, where Hamed Noori, president of the Afghanistan Journalist Union opened the conference explaining the aim of the walk. The Minister of Public Health, Doctor Fatimie, continued with a speech about diabetes and the importance of this day in the life of people with diabetes as well as for all Afghanis.
The Minister talked about the activities Novo Nordisk has done so far, and mentioned the official letter he had sent from the Afghan Medical Relief Foundation (AMRF) to Ken Belanger, to extend and support more diabetes clinics in 6 main provinces in Afghanistan, and allocate a budget for this purpose.
Novo Nordisk country responsible, Sardar Isaqzai closed the conference with a speech about Novo Nordisk activities in Afghanistan, and their on-going projects for the improvement of diabetes care in the country. He thanked AMRF and NGOs for their support as well as all attending and participating in the World Diabetes Day.
The Minister of Health, many doctors, teachers and about 150 students joined in the walk which started at 14:00 hours in Kabul city and had a total of 1,100 participants – more than doubling the participation number of 2004. The program ended with a live concert of a famous Afghan singer.
