School Challenge activities in Argentina

two weeks of schoolactivities

During the weeks 14th – 25th November School Challenge activities took place in Buenos Aires. Novo Nordisk Pharma Argentina employees coordinated two weeks of activities in ten different schools in San Isidro. Around 615 Children aged 10-14 attended this project.

The children received a 30 minute lesson about diabetes and its prevention. During the lecture the children were introduced to different topics such as healthy eating, physical activity, etc. A group of five nutritionists of NNPA were in charge of the lecture.
After the lesson the groups aged 10-12 solved didactic games and played tag (‘The extraordinary league’). The games were especially designed as a follow-up/ integration activity after receiving concepts about diabetes.
The games and tag were developed by Novo Nordisk employees from different areas.

The groups aged 12-14 had to solve a challenge and received the comic ‘The extraordinary league’, both of which were developed by the employees. ‘The extraordinary league’ is a comic strip especially designed to introduce children to a healthy lifestyle and to help them to adopt positive and healthy habits.

After all the activities the children received a Frisbee each and a football for the class. This was our way of saying “don’t forget to do physical activity.”

In addition, the children received some notes with a summary of the most important topics, such as diabetes, healthy eating and physical activities to share with their families.

The objectives of this activity were:
To provide a first approach to diabetes: main facts, prevention, healthy habits
To get acquainted with a healthy lifestyle and its relevance for the health
To develop critical reflection and thinking through a real, complex, worldwide issue
To face children with real, everyday issues and help them make a difference with those around them.

During the two weeks, we visited 10 schools, around 600 children received the lectures about diabetes and healthy living, 600 families received material about diabetes and 23% of NNPA employees took part in this project.
