Healthy rappers in New Zealand

School Challenge with healthy beats

Healthy rap-messages were ’going down’ when a school class from Awhitu in New Zealand recently was announced as winners of a School Challenge arts and music competition.

The competition, which was part of the School Challenge activities in New Zealand and Australia on World Diabetes Day last year, offered two entry options. The competing schools could choose to send healthy messages about eating and physical activity either through art or music.

Awhitu School went with the musical theme, and created a rap song promoting healthy choices in life. The rap song was accompanied by a video.

Tina Wall, corporate communications manager for Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals Pty, says Awhitu were clearly the winners. The winning entry was ‘brilliant’. The class collected a cheque of 4,000 Australian dollars as their prize.
