Orienteering Race
![]()
This activity is on the lines of an orienteering race with various questions or tasks that have to be tackled before the children can proceed to the next post.
Teaching the activity
The race can be organised with a fixed route, or the children can use a map (and optionally a compass). The race takes place outdoors. The children can run individually or in groups.
The step-by-step guide (PDF) describes the activity in detail.
The length of the race can be adapted to the surroundings, and the number of posts can be adapted to the time and space that are available for the activity. The race outlined here is 3 km long. There are six posts and the activity takes approx 2 hours. We recommend that all six posts should be staffed.

Tools:
-
Six posts (available online)
-
Answers/solutions for posts (available online)
-
Post markings: cardboard, sports cone, coloured tape or similar
-
Map and compass (optional)
-

Educational goals
The Orienteering Race is first and foremost about exercising together with others. As well as the physical and social dimension, the children gain an insight into relevant issues relating to nutrition, general knowledge and sport.
