Body Facts

How many bones are in the human body? Why is blood red? The activity prepares the children to examine and discuss the body’s functions in relation to health and exercise.

Teaching the activity
Body Facts is suitable for class teaching with the involvement of all pupils. You can sit the children in a circle on the floor or around a table so that everyone can see each other during the discussion and when answering the questions.

The activity is based on a poster of a child. The poster has related cards containing factual information on eight of the body’s primary functions. There are questions linked to each card, some of which are factual, while others are open discussion questions. The eight cards can be read out by the adult or by the children themselves.
After the activity, the poster and the eight cards can be displayed for future inspiration.

The step-by-step guide (PDF) gives detailed instructions.

Body Facts is an activity that can be carried out on its own, but it can also be used in connection with topic work on health or the body’s organs.

The activity takes approx 2 hours. The duration of the activity depends on whether the children work in small groups or as a class.

Educational goals
Body Facts gives the children understanding of their bodies and bodily functions as well as how exercise and healthy eating affect the body’s well-being.
