You can put health on the school timetable!
The School Challenge can be used by schoolteachers, after-school teachers and parents. The activities are easy to implement. Just choose an activity, read the step-by-step instructions and print out the material – then you’re ready to put health on the school timetable.
If you do not already work with children on a daily basis, you can enrol as a guest teacher at a local school, maybe even at your own child’s school.
How to become a guest teacher
-
Contact a local school and ask whether they are interested in the School Challenge.
-
Agree with the class teacher on the activities that you would like to carry out on the day.
Plan the activity: make sure that you have all the necessary materials (print out the School Challenge materials, buy apparatus, or borrow balls, skittles etc from the school). -
Consider inviting parents and siblings along on the day.
-
Possibly contact the local press on the day.
-
Be prepared! Refresh your understanding of diabetes.
-
Important: tell the children why it is important to stay active and eat healthily – background health information on a child’s level.
-
Remember: send feedback from the day to School Challenge.
Have fun – we look forward to hearing how it went!
